Sandhill Cranes at Sunset

I paid a visit a few weeks ago to the Bernardo Waterfowl Area, about 40 miles north of its better-known cousin, Bosque del Apache. As much as I love still photos, there’s not one I’ve ever seen that’s come close to capturing the nightly fly-in of the cranes. I also shot some video (below), which includes the crazy and beautiful cacophony of the process.

The cranes have already begun their northward migration — I’ll miss them.
